Joe’s Woods

Address:
51 Roos Road, East Sandwich

The 6.94 acre parcel off Roos Rd. was donated by Thomas A. Gelsthorpe in 1986. It consists of mixed woods and clearings that abut Gelsthorpe’s former cranberry farm. The land is named as a tribute the prior owner, Joe Bois, who loved vacationing in Sandwich. Bois is a French name that translates to wood in English, thus, Joe's Woods. Species include Whitlow grass, cranberries, blueberries, swamp azaleas and sheep laurel. Adjacent parcels were acquired and the combined areas now total roughly 35 acres, including two ponds and abandoned cranberry bogs.
